Organic Waste Collection Starts in October

Several years in the making, the City of St. Louis Park's organics and yard waste recycling program is finally set to kick off.

The first 90-gallon carts will be collected on October 1, according to a post on the city's website. The city has already started taking sign-ups for the program, which will cost subscribers $40 per year.

The city council approved contracts with waste disposal companies on May 6 that set the program in motion. Open houses explaining the change will be held this August.

According to City Council documents, the program was launched with the intent of reducing the amount of waste the city sends to landfills every year.
