Gay Mechanic Accuses SLP-Based Dealership of Ignoring Slurs, Threats

Joel Michael Roland still works at Luther Brookdale Chevrolet in Brooklyn Center. The dealership and St. Louis Park-based BB Motor Sales deny all of Roland's accusations.

A mechanic who says he’s gay has sued a dealership owned by St. Louis Park-based BB Motor Sales LLC over accusations that the man’s coworkers accosted him with gay slurs and threats without the company doing anything, the Pioneer Press reported Monday.

In a lawsuit filed in Hennepin County District Court, Joel Michael Roland, a mechanic at Luther Brookdale Chevrolet in Brooklyn Center, added that “he was disciplined for ‘speaking in a high-pitched voice and lisping,’ which a customer interpreted as being demeaning to homosexuals,” according to the paper.

In a response filed with the court, the dealership and BB Motor Sales denied all of Roland’s accusations.
