Share Your Snowy Photos on Patch

Are you enjoying the winter weather? Upload your photos and share them with the community.

We know that winter weather brings its fair share of difficulties, but snow also means that it's time for snowmen building, snow angel making and a few snow ball fights. On Sunday, officials from nearby Theodore Wirth Park said that the cross country ski trails were busy. The The “Front-9” will be rolled and packed today, providing more choices for skiers. Theodore Wirth Park also has miles of single track mountain biking trails, which are available for enthusiasts with fire tire bikes. According to a trail conditions forum from Minnesota Off Road Cyclists, conditions are great for fat tire biking. On Sunday afternoon, one forum user called the conditions "unique" and encouraged riders to take to the trails. If you, or people you know, are…

Hennepin County Sheriff Issues Thin Ice Warning

Hennepin Sheriff Rich Stanek reminds parents and caregivers to keep children away from thin ice.

Editor's Note: The following is a Hennepin County Sheriff's Office press release. Hennepin Sheriff Rich Stanek is reminding parents and caregivers to keep children away from thin ice on partially frozen ponds, lakes, and all bodies of water. Most victims of fatal accidents on the ice in Hennepin County have been children. “When your child is near the ice or the water, you should be near your child,” said Hennepin County Sheriff Rich Stanek, “I urge you to provide clear rules about ice safety throughout the winter months.” No ice should ever be considered safe. Small bodies of water such as ponds are especially a hazard now since they are the most likely to have a thin layer of ice.  A dusting of snow or frost may give thin ice the …

Season's First Snow: Post Your Photos

Share the view from where you are.

When November rolls around, folks in Minnesota and Wisconsin know that snow is coming soon. But it's still a bit of a surprise when it starts to fall for the first time each year. Snow started falling in the Twin Cities area before noon Saturday, and anywhere from 2 to 4 inches was expected to accumulate, according to the National Weather Service. Please add your snow photos to our collection.

That's what I meant. I was driving on ice and snow today in Golden Valley and everyone had predicted there would be a messy slush and that it would melt within hours. I realize it will probably melt in the next couple days, Michael. Something tells me you're a smart alec:)   more ›

Snapshot: St. Louis Park

Enough Already!

We've said this before—hopefully this is the last snowfall of the season.

It's mid-April, and although it isn't unprecedented to get April snow showers in Minnesota, it definitely contributes to cabin fever. At least this round of snow shouldn't stay on the ground for more than a day. Still, the weather will have some effect on local sports Wednesday—a girls golf meet involving St. Louis Park High School and Benilde-St. Margaret's has been bumped back a week. A Benilde-St. Margaret's boys golf meet has also been moved back a week, while a BSM junior varsity baseball game and a track meet have been canceled. Have your own snow photos? Final Snowplow Sighting?

With what we hope was winter's final gasp, this may have been the last time out for plows.

This week's snowfall dumped roughly four inches of snow on the Twin Cities, delaying the sight of front yards and making sidewalks rutted, icy and difficult to traverse. And while the temperature isn't expected to spike anytime soon, the good news is that no more snow is in the forecast.

Have Snow Pics? Share Them With Patch

St. Louis Park Patch wants your help in documenting the snowstorm.

It's not over yet. What has already been an incredibly snowy winter is now carrying over into spring, as the four to seven inches expected today in the Twin Cities comes three days after the equinox. Depressing, huh? Well, let's be optimistic and think that this will be the last blizzard of the year, as sunshine and picnics are surely just around the corner. But before we get there, St. Louis Park Patch wants your help in documenting this March snowstorm. You can do so by sending us your snow pictures, whether that means a shot of a buried car, dad shoveling or the kids playing on a new mound of snow. One Last Blast

Winter is back, burying sidewalks and snarling traffic.

The commute is marathon-like Wednesday morning. Up to seven inches of snow could fall today in the Twin Cities, and what has already fallen is clogging freeways, and making side-streets and sidewalks treacherous. The National Weather Service has the metro under a winter storm warning until 7 p.m. and is advising against travel. Already, the Twin Cities area has topped 80 inches of snow this winter, making it the seventh snowiest winter on record. As a reminder, St. Louis Park bans street parking as soon as snowfall hits three inches. Stay tuned to St. Louis Park Patch for updates. For more on local winter parking, visit the city's website. St. Louis Park Parking Restrictions Lifted

The city had been asking people to only park on the odd side of the street.

Even with snow in tonight's forecast, another sign of spring just appeared: the city of St. Louis Park lifted a voluntary, odd-side-only parking restriction on Tuesday. The city had been asking residents to park on the odd side of streets since early February in an effort to de-congest roads clogged by snow. The initiative never became mandatory this year, though St. Louis Park has enforced similar parking restrictions with tickets in years past. There is still an automatic parking ban on both sides of St. Louis Park streets anytime snowfall reaches three inches. For more, visit the city's website.
