Former Uptown Favorite Now Open at West End

Figlio rebooted on Monday at the old Sopranos location.

West End, meet Figlio. Figlio, meet West End. The former Uptown favorite—which closed in 2009 after 25 years of business—reopened today at the trendy St. Louis Park shopping destination, filling the space left vacant by Sopranos Italian Kitchen. Figlio should be right at home, according to this post on the restaurant's website last week:   The Shops at West End has been affectionately nicknamed “the new Uptown” and we couldn’t agree more. Figlio lives, and right in the heart of the new Uptown, just where it should be. The new restaurant will be open Monday-Wednesday from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m., Thursday 11 a.m. to 11 p.m., Saturday 11 a.m. to midnight, and Sunday 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. If you want to check out Figlio today after work, there is a …

Twin Cities Film Fest Unveils 2012 Lineup, Starts Ticket Sales

The event is returning to St. Louis Park's Shops at West End Oct. 12-20.

This year's Twin Cities Film Fest will feature 60 films, including an all-time favorite and a few with distinctly local flavor. The nine-day festival, which is coming to St. Louis Park's Shops at West End and Showplace Icon Theater for the second-straight year, opens on Oct. 12 with "A Place at The Table"—a documentary featuring Jeff Bridges that explores the hunger crisis in America. Tickets for all films go on sale today. "Silver Linings Playbook" will be the festival's centerpiece film. The quirky love story, which stars Bradley Cooper and Jennifer Lawrence, won the top award at the Toronto International Film Festival on Sunday. Past Toronto winners include “Slumdog Millionaire” and “The King’s Speech.” The festival will also feature …

Figlio Opening at West End Next Week

The new restaurant is filling Sopranos vacant space.

Figlio fans only have seven more days to wait until the restaurant opens in St. Louis Park. The former Uptown favorite is rebooting at the Shops at West End, filling the vacant Sopranos space around the corner from Crave. Figlio called Lake and Hennepin home for 25 years, but closed in 2009 as a new restaurant opened. That venture ultimately failed, and fans of the popular Figlio have been clamoring for it to reopen ever since. On its website, Figlio staffers say the new West End spot should be a great fit for the restaurant: The Shops at West End has been affectionately nicknamed “the new Uptown” and we couldn’t agree more. Figlio lives, and right in the heart of the new Uptown, just where it should be. Reservations are currently being …

Sopranos to Close, Figlio Moving in to West End

Sopranos chef J.P. Samuelson will stay on at the new restaurant.

After barely a year of business, Sopranos Italian Kitchen at West End will be closing, and a former Uptown favorite is moving in. The Star Tribune reports that Figlio will be taking over the space, and that Kam Talebi, who operates Crave, is behind the effort. The paper notes that Sopranos' last day will be July 29, and the goal is to open Figlio on Sept. 24. "It had a great stay, and we've been happy with it," Talebi told the Star Tribune of Sopranos. "But this was such a unique opportunity. I couldn't let it pass by." Sopranos chef J.P. Samuelson will reportedly stay put and work on Figlio's menu. You can read more about Samuelson—and the opening of Sopranos last year—in this Patch article.

We ate at Soprano's for the first (and only) time just a week ago, and unfortunately, can't say this surprises me. Best of luck for the new Figlio location! West End is such a great place for SLP residents, I really hope people continue to come out to support it!   more ›

Check them out above. On Saturday, be sure to head over the Grand Day Parade, which is the staple of Parktacular weekend. For more on Parktacular, check out our event guide.

Best Patio in the Park: Rojo Mexican Grill

The West End bar and grill won our Readers' Choice voting.

St. Louis Park has spoken: Rojo Mexican Grill has the best patio in town. In a wide-open Readers' Choice poll, Rojo secured enough votes to pull away from a large and accomplished field (see full results below). This bar and grill is located at the popular Shops at West End, and has its patio on a bustling corner, not far from the ShowPlace Icon Theater, making it a nice stop before or after a movie. Daily happy hours feature half-priced appetizers and $5.50 margaritas.

New Home Furnishings Store Open at West End

Parmida offers furniture, decor and various gifts.

A new home furnishings store has opened at St. Louis Park's Shops at West End. Parmida offers furniture, decor and various gifts. The West End location is one of eight new locales being rolled out by the company this year. “It’s thrilling to have Parmida open,” said Michael Landstad, West End senior property manager, in a press release. “We’ve all been watching the build-out and it looks great. The interior of the store is absolutely stunning and the merchandise mix is filled with items you can’t get anywhere else around here.” Last month, the West End announced the addition of a sushi restaurant and a blow dry bar.
