Catching Up With...Former Park Teacher Darold 'Deb' Wold

He taught for 32 years and also had great success as a basketball coach.

Today, we profile former Park teacher Darold "Deb" Wold. Earlier this week, we featured the St. Louis Park Public Schools Foundation, which is putting on the event. The Park's Past

50 Years Ago, Orioles Ruled the Hardwood

This year marks the 50th anniversary of a St. Louis Park championship.

With the 2012 Minnesota Boys Basketball State Tournament starting today, it seems appropriate to honor a St. Louis Park team that made its mark on this event 50 years ago. The 1962 Orioles basketball team won the state championship, defeating more than 480 schools for the prize in what was a one-class, eight-team event. Park finished the season 22-2. The late Lloyd Holm, who coached the team, was inducted into the St. Louis Park Athletic Hall of Fame in 2005. Last year, the entire team received a "Team of Distinction" award. Season Comes to an End for Orioles Hoopsters

St. Louis Park lost to Wayzata on Tuesday in the Section 6AAAA playoffs.

The St. Louis Park boys basketball team saw its season come to an end on Tuesday night, as the Orioles fell on the road to Wayzata in the opening round of the Section 6AAAA playoffs, 71-56. The Orioles finish the season 14-13. Junior Kashif Hayes led Park with 17 points—right in line with his regular season average, which was tops on the team. Fellow juniors DJ Pollard and Makhi Moore added 16 and 11 points per night, respectively. With those juniors coming back—and only two seniors graduating—the Orioles figure to have a solid squad next season. Wayzata advances to play No. 1 seed Hopkins on Friday in the section semifinals. The section championship game will be next Tuesday, with the Class 4A state tournament beginning on March 21. Want …

Orioles Hoopsters Get a Win on Coaches Night

St. Louis Park topped Chisago Lakes in boys basketball on Tuesday, 61-47.

After a sluggish start, the St. Louis Park boys basketball team picked up steam and rolled to a 61-47 win over Chisago Lakes in the last home game of the regular season on Tuesday night. The Orioles (13-12 overall, 9-6 in North Suburban Conference) trailed the Wildcats (5-19, 3-11) 25-23 at halftime, but used a 38-22 second half to pull ahead and put the game away. Makhi Moore led the way with 12 points for Park, while Charley Koch added 11 and Sam Brimacomb had nine. Kashif Hayes, who leads the Orioles in scoring with 17 per game, was relatively quiet with only four on Tuesday. Before the game, all of St. Louis Park's coaches were honored during a brief ceremony.
