Shjon Podein Ends Tenure as SLP Hockey Coach

Podein came aboard as the head coach of the Orioles varsity hockey team two years ago.

After just two seasons as head coach of the St. Louis Park High School boys hockey team, former NHL star Shjon Podein has submitted his resignation. Podein, a Park resident, took the helm of the Orioles back in 2011. A 10-year veteran of the NHL, Podein helped take the Colorado Avalanche to a Stanley Cup victory in 2001.  According to St. Louis Park resident and Orioles play-by-play announcer John Froom, Podein resigned from the position as he wanted to spend more time with his young children. In his first year as head coach, Podein helped lead the Orioles to a 17-5 finish. The boys hockey team finished with a 4-20-1 record during the 2012-13 season. St. Louis Park Superintendent Bowers Announces Resignation

Debra Bowers has been with St. Louis Park Schools as superintendent since 2004.

St. Louis Park Public Schools Superintendent Debra Bowers announced her resignation today, Jan. 8, ending a nine-year tenure with the district. Bowers' current contract expires on June 30, 2013, but she has opted to not seek an additional contract. The district reports she is currently considering her options to transition to another line of work within the education field. "I am so proud of the work we’ve done together," she said. "St. Louis Park is an amazing community and I am fortunate to have worked closely with parents, staff and community members to ‘achieve success, one student at a time.'" The School Board is currently developing a transition plan to seek a new superintendent, though specifics are not immediately available. Bowers…
