With help from Twins mascot T.C. Bear, the St. Louis Park field celebrated a grand reopening Saturday.
With barely a cloud in the sky, the St. Louis Park baseball community gathered to celebrate the grand reopening of Northside Park on Saturday. The home of St. Louis Park Little League was recently renovated. The roughly $1 million project included the addition of a third field, as well as upgrades to dugouts, batting cages and bleachers. Funding came from Hennepin County Twins stadium tax grants, as well as the city. Twins mascot T.C. Bear was on hand for Saturday's celebration, helping throw out a ceremonial first pitch with Mayor Jeff Jacobs before Little League teams started their seasons. "This will be the center of the St. Louis Park baseball community," Jacobs said. If you have your own photos from the event, feel free to share them …

Nothing like a first trip to Target Field.
What’s America’s favorite pastime? That’s right, baseball! Last week, I had the pleasure of going to Target Field to watch the Twins knock the Chicago White Sox out of the park with some first time spectators. Noah and Caleb Tietjen had never been to a professional baseball game, so this was extra exciting for them. They were in awe of the grandiosity of the stadium as well as the height of the surrounding buildings. The view of the buildings here was much different than the distant view from their St. Louis Park backyard. The kids had a great and memorable first game experience, complete with Wiffle ball souvenirs, lots of energy and a ton of pictures. How great is it to have such a nice ballpark only a few minutes away from our …

Plans fizzled 60 years ago, and the Met in Bloomington opened.
Had things shaken out a bit differently, people might not be shopping at St. Louis Park’s West End these days, but rather getting ready to tailgate before a Vikings game. In the late 1940s, serious discussions were had in St. Louis Park about building a new, multi-purpose stadium on 30 acres near Wayzata Boulevard and Zarthan Avenue, according to the St. Louis Park Historical Society. The plan was to build a stadium modeled after the Polo Grounds in New York City, which at the time was home to the New York Giants football and baseball squads. It was a fitting concept—local officials were actively trying to lure the baseball Giants from New York in the hopes of bringing Major League Baseball to Minnesota for the first time. That, of course…
