A trial for the St. Louis Park teenager accused of killing two Iowa store clerks in November has been moved because of the publicity the case has received. Michael Richard Swanson, 18, is set to stand trial in Lyon County, Iowa, on July 27 on charges of first-degree murder and robbery. That trial was originally slated to be held in Kossuth County. A Kossuth County judge will now decide whether to move the trial of Michael Richard Swanson. A Humboldt County case has already been moved to Carroll County. That trial is set for June 20, while the Humboldt County case is set for July 27. Swanson faces first-degree murder charges in both counties. The Iowa Supreme Court will not review a motion to combine the trials of a St. Louis Park teenager accused of killing two store clerks in November, according to a local newspaper. The Messenger newspaper in Fort Dodge, Iowa, reports that the order was filed Thursday. This came after the attorney for Michael Richard Swanson, 18, filed a request for the high court to review a district court ruling that also denied merging the two trials. Swanson, 17, is now set to stand trial in Carroll County, Iowa, not Humboldt County, which is where one of the two shootings on Nov. 15 occurred. The trial date is still June 20. The Des Moines Register reports that Michael Richard Swanson's attorney, Charles Kenville, filed the motion because of the intense media attention the case has received. The 17-year-old Swanson reportedly stole his mother's car in St. Louis Park on the night of Nov. 15, then drove to Iowa and killed the clerks in separate robbery attempts.
