Holiday Travel Tips: What To Consider Before Leaving This Holiday Season

From stocking your car with blankets, food and kitty litter, to bringing games and books on the road, these tips will help you be prepared for air and road trips.

During this time of the year, many of us are climbing in the car or hopping on a plane to visit family and friends. These trips, whether just a few hours or several days, can be a time to create long-remembered family memories, but as you head out on the road or board that plane, don’t forget to follow the Boy Scout’s motto: Be Prepared. Pre-plan Before leaving home, make sure items such as mail or newspapers will be picked up by a neighbor or friend. If that won’t work for you, consider having your mail held and newspaper delivery stopped while you are out of town. A house with mail and newspapers piling up is a beacon for burglars. A house sitter is another option to consider. And don’t forget about the four-legged members of your family…

Memorial Day Road Report

If you’re heading out of town for the long Memorial Day weekend or taking a drive around town, there are several areas of roadwork you might want to avoid around the metro.

Here is a list of some of the projects that might impact motorists traveling through the metro for Memorial Day weekend, according to the Minnesota Department of Transportation (MnDOT) and area cities. Interstate 94 westbound Road reconstruction is taking place between County Road 19 in Albertville and State Highway 241 near St. Michael. State Highway 55             Road construction is taking place in both directions on State Highway 55 between County Road 20 in Rockford and County Road 101 in Medina. Holiday Season Gives Local Business A Boost

The Pampered Pooch Playground has been booked up since mid-November.

With the holiday season marked by travel, many people find themselves needing to make arrangements for a pet — and that's been good news for a St. Louis Park business. Pampered Pooch Playground, a "doggy daycare" center that opened its doors back in April 2008, has seen a spike in customers since Thanksgiving, leaving the service booked through the holidays with a waiting list of at least 10 to 15 dogs.  "Until November, we typically had around 85 dogs per day," owner Keith Miller said. "Then all of a sudden we had 95 dogs per day and saw some of our first customers on the waiting list."
