Updated: Police Chase Stolen Car Through Golden Valley And St. Louis Park

Brooklyn Center police say two suspects led officers down Highway 169 before they were arrested near Minnetonka Boulevard.

A police chase Thursday morning began in Brooklyn Center and continued through New Hope and Golden Valley, before ending in Minnetonka. At about 2:40 a.m. Jan. 3, a Brooklyn Center police officer spotted two people driving a stolen car in a parking lot near Shingle Creek Parkway and Freeway Boulevard. When the officer tried to stop the car, the driver accelerated and took police on a 14-mile chase. According to Brooklyn Center Police Department Investigative Commander Tim Gannon, an adult male and adult female drove westbound on Interstate 694 and continued southbound on Highway 169 through New Hope and Golden Valley. Gannon said New Hope police and Minnesota State Patrol assisted in the pursuit. On Highway 169, scanner information …

West Metro Monday Morning Commute Slippery and Long

Packs of snow and ice on the road resulted in road incidents and travel delays.

The winter storm that hit Minnesota over the weekend brought over a foot of snow in some cities and dangerous road conditions. By the Monday morning commute, many major roads were in fair condition, but not perfect. Slippery and hardened snow packed areas led to morning road troubles and lengthy commutes, according to the Star Tribune. The evening commute should be better, WCCO reported, as the Minnesota Department of Transportation continues to clear the road. Here’s a look at some of the traffic incidents in the West Metro as reported by MnDOT. Interstate 494  Highway 169  Minnesota Highway 5 US-212 In the West Metro, Lt. Eric Roeske with the Minnesota State Patrol reported that from 9:30 p.m. on Saturday through 10 a.m. Monday morning …

No Injuries In Overnight Crash At 169 And Cedar Lake Road

Police say both drivers—a Bloomington man and a Plymouth man—tried to make the light.

Two cars crashed Tuesday night in front of the former Cedar Manor school. A Plymouth woman was sitting in her car on Cedar Lake Road, waiting for eastbound traffic to pass before she made a turn onto the Highway 169 on-ramp, according to a report filed by Officer Mary Albrecht with the St. Louis Park Police Department. As the light turned yellow, the woman told police she believed oncoming traffic was slowing down. As she started to make her turn, a Bloomington man driving eastbound on Cedar Lake Road sped up to make it through the intersection before the light changed. The two cars collided. The driver of the eastbound car told police that he wasn't sure how the accident had happened. The crash was reported at about 9:20 p.m. Tuesday, Oct…

Highway 169 Access to Change in St. Louis Park

A frontage road that empties into 22nd Street, 22nd Lane and 23rd Street will close.

Highway 169 in St. Louis Park is getting a makeover of sorts. A small frontage road that grants access at three points—22nd Street, 22nd Lane and 23rd Street (see attached map)—is going to be shut down and replaced with a 12-foot tall barrier. The project, which will be paid for by the Minnesota Department of Transportation, is expected to get underway sometime next year. The St. Louis Park City Council voted unanimously on Monday to support the project. MnDOT is pursuing the project because the department wants to eventually close all direct access ramps between local streets and freeways for safety reasons. Residents have also been supportive of the project. Julia Ross, the city’s Fourth Ward councilwoman, said constituents who live …

I can double check that figure, but I'm pretty sure that's what was presented at the council meeting. 200 to 300 is probably low compared to other areas on and around Highway 169.   more ›

Highway 169 to Temporarily Close This Weekend

MnDOT will close 169 between County Road 62 and Excelsior Boulevard for bridge demolition.

The effects will undoubtedly be less dire than those predicted for California’s “Carmageddon,” but local drivers should still plan ahead if their route takes them along Highway 169 this weekend. The Minnesota Department of Transportation will completely close Highway 169 between County Road 62 and Excelsior Boulevard to remove the Bren Road bridge. The highway will be fully shutdown in both directions from 10 p.m. Friday through 5 a.m. Monday while crews work around the clock to demolish the bridge and remove debris. Crews will be completing preparatory work for the weekend project in the coming preceding days. The replacement bridge should be ready for use by Nov. 1.
