St. Louis Park Girl Scout Day will be on March 12.
With the Girl Scouts of America celebrating a 100th birthday this year, St. Louis Park is honoring its own great girls. Per a city proclamation made on Monday by Mayor Jeff Jacobs, March 12, 2012, will be St. Louis Park Girl Scout Day. You can see Jacobs make the proclamation in the video above and read the full proclamation below. Before the proclamation was made, the local Girl Scouts led the City Council in the Pledge of Allegiance as well. The Girl Scouts of America first formed on March 12, 1912, when Juliette "Daisy" Gordon Low assembled 18 girls from Savannah, GA. Today, there are roughly 2.3 million Girl Scouts across the country, including nearly 300 in St. Louis Park. *** City Council's Girl Scouts proclamation: WHEREAS, Girl …

We teach our children about “stranger danger” but some organizations and schools encourage kids to sell products door-to-door to raise money.
Each year at this time, we get the knock at the door. It’s the Girl Scouts, selling their cookies. Don’t get me wrong, I can chow down a Thin Mint like nobody's business. A donation from local Rotary groups is paying for the rock wall.
Editor's Note: The following is a brief recap of the City Council meeting held Monday, March 21: Outdoor enthusiasts already do plenty of hiking at the Westwood Hills Nature Center, but soon a new activity will be available — climbing. With the help of a $15,000 donation from local Rotary clubs, the St. Louis Park nature center will be getting a new rock wall, which is expected to be ready for use in May. The donation from the Sunrise Rotary Club, the Noon Rotary Club and the Rotary Foundation of Rotary International was presented to City Council Monday night and is expected to cover nearly all of the project’s costs. The city is slated to chip in roughly $1,000 to get the site ready for construction. “I’m deeply touched by all the work …
