A crowd of roughly 100 peaceful protesters gathered outside the Beth El Synagogue on Wednesday night, decrying the man speaking inside—former President George W. Bush. The protesters held up signs that labeled the country’s 43rd president a “war criminal” and a “torturer” for his authorization of enhanced interrogation techniques during his presidency. Some symbolically wore prison jumpsuits, in reference to detainees of facilities such as Abu Ghraib. With former President George W. Bush scheduled to speak at a local synagogue later this month, some are planning a protest outside the event. Bush, the 43rd president of the United States, is headed to Beth El on Sept. 21 for what the American Jewish World describes as an "intimate" gathering, with seating limited to 250 and ticket prices starting at $1,250. The AJW reports that the press will not be invited. As a protester of former President Bush's appearance at the Beth El Synagogue, I was appalled at the number of people who would pay over $1,000 to listen to a admitted war crimminal. As a payed attendee of this event, that makes you complicit in the act of commiting torture which is illegal both domestically and internationally.
