Updated Feb. 8: Minnesota's 2013 flu outbreak is definitely on the wane. The Minnesota Department of Health (MDH) reported Thursday afternoon that influenza killed 15 more state residents during the week of Jan. 27-Feb. 2—less than half the number of deaths reported the previous week. So far this season, a total of 127 Minnesotans have died of flu-related illness. One of those deaths was Carly Christenson, 14, of St. Louis Park. She died of flu-related complications on Jan. 8. According to this report from the Star-Tribune, the vast majority of deaths and hospitalizations have occurred among the elderly. More Than 60 Get Flu Shots At Community Breakfast

More than 300 people ate pancakes at the annual event at Aquila Elementary on Saturday.

More than 300 people attended the annual community breakfast at Aquila Elementary School on Saturday morning, according to Lou Ann Olson. The Parent Teacher Organization invited the Minnesota Visiting Nurse Agency to administer flu vaccinations to anyone who needed one. Olson said 60 people received vaccinations. About one-fourth of those people did not have insurance, so Olson said they received free or discounted vaccinations. Clarence Pollock, Aquila principal, helped cook the pancakes at the event. The Star Tribune reported he got a flu shot at the breakfast. Fly Orange Balloons Saturday For Carly Christenson

St. Louis Park-area residents mourn the death of the 14-year-old high school freshman from flu-related complications.

On Saturday, the day of her memorial service, friends and family members are asking St. Louis Park residents to fly orange balloons in her honor. A Facebook page called "Gone but Never Forgotten R.I.P Carly Christenson" was created Tuesday and had 978 likes as of 8 p.m. Friday. Another called "R.I.P Carly Christenson," also created Tuesday, had 474 likes as of Friday night.
