Benilde Icers Among Finalists for 2013 Mr. Hockey Award

Grant Besse and Dan Labosky are in the running for the prestigious award. The winner will be announced on Sunday, Mar. 10, during the 29th annual Mr. Hockey Awards Banquet.

Benilde-St. Margaret's seniors Grant Besse and Dan Labosky are among 10 Minnesota hockey stars in the running for the 2013 Mr. Hockey Award. The Red Knight stars helped propel BSM to a state title last season, with Besse tallying all five of the team's goals in the championship game. Labosky has 11 goals and 46 assists during the 2012-13 season, while Besse has a monstrous 39 goals and 25 assists. The pair of BSM talents are two of 10 hockey players up for the annual award through the Minnesota Minute Men. They're joined by: Besse has committed to the play hockey at the University of Wisconsin, while Labosky will attend Colorado College. The Red Knights will face Hill-Murray after completing a 10-1 rout of Lakeville South Friday night.

When Benilde-St. Margaret's entered the Minnesota State High School Hockey Tournament, the Red Knights were unseeded and considered somewhat of a Cinderella story. But with a 10-1 rout of Lakeville South in Friday night’s semifinal game, the Red Knights are now looking more like a team of destiny and potential odd-on favorite to win it all. After running the Section 6AA gauntlet and downing favorite Minnetonka 5-1 to earn a tournament berth, BSM fought off No. 4 seed Edina 3-2 in a Thursday thriller before blowing out the Cougars on Friday. BSM jumped to a 5-0 lead after the first period, forcing a Cougar goalie change by utilizing their speed to create multiple scoring opportunities.
