Fly Orange Balloons Saturday For Carly Christenson
St. Louis Park-area residents mourn the death of the 14-year-old high school freshman from flu-related complications.
On Saturday, the day of her memorial service, friends and family members are asking St. Louis Park residents to fly orange balloons in her honor. A Facebook page called "Gone but Never Forgotten R.I.P Carly Christenson" was created Tuesday and had 978 likes as of 8 p.m. Friday. Another called "R.I.P Carly Christenson," also created Tuesday, had 474 likes as of Friday night. The following obituary was provided by Westwood Lutheran Church: Celebrating the life of Carly Christenson Saturday, Jan. 12, 2013 3 p.m. Memorial Service 2 p.m. Visitation Christenson, Carly Evelyn age 14, passed away on Tuesday, Jan. 8, 2013 at Children's Hospital in Minneapolis from complications from Influenza. Carly is the daughter of Sandy (Finneseth) and Sean Christenson of St. Louis Park, MN. She was born in Edina, MN, on May 27, 1998 and was a freshman at St. Louis Park High School where she was involved in many extracurricular activities. She is survived by brother, Wyatt; grandparents, James and Judith Christenson of Grand Rapids, MN; grandmother, Kay Finneseth of Fargo, ND, and several aunts, uncles, cousins and friends…

A worship service at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday at Westwood Lutheran Church included "a time of prayer and candle-lighting to remember Carly (Christenson)," according to a Constant Contact post by church staff. Carly died at 12:40 p.m. Tuesday, according to the church. A YouTube user named zappyext posted a video Wednesday morning "In Remembrance of Carly Christenson." It includes many photos of Carly and her friends. (You can view it above.) Two slides at the end of the video say, "This video is dedicated to the Christenson family. You are not alone. Carly Christenson died from Influenza A Tuesday afternoon, according to reports. Three SLP girls basketball teams set for Tuesday are postponed.
Updated below. Carly Christenson, the St. Louis Park teen stricken with Influenza A, has died, according to a report from WCCO. Christenson, 14, came home from basketball practice at St. Louis Park High School with a bad sore throat Dec. 20 and was admitted to Children's Hospital in Minneapolis on Dec. 24.
