Curious George, Clifford and Lego Star Wars were among the top read books.

An additional category in 2012 — easy books (for very young children) — has more variety than some of the top 25 lists released by Hennepin County Library earlier this week. Eighteen of the top 25 titles are by different authors. The list includes “Lego Star Wars” at number one, “Curious George Goes to the Zoo” in second place, and two “Fancy Nancy” titles in third and fourth place (as well as seventh and 21st). “I Can Be a Ballerina” came in at number five and is one of two titles from this “Step Into Reading” series that made it into the top 25. 1. For the second year in a row, one teen book topped the list.

Hennepin County Library has tabulated the top 25 teen titles checked out in 2012, and the list shows that Hennepin County readers are remarkably consistent in their reading interests year to year. In 2012 as in 2011, “The Hunger Games” by Suzanne Collins was the most checked-out teen book of the year. “Catching Fire” by Collins moved up from number four to number two, and her “Mockingjay” remained as the third most popular teen title of the year. Another futuristic novel, “Divergent” by Veronica Roth, and a World War II fiction, “The Book Thief” by Markus Zusak, round out the teen top five. 1. The Hunger Games by Suzanne Collins 2. Hennepin County shares a list of the most checked out adult books.
The following was provided by Hennepin County Library. In 2011 and 2012, 24 of the top 25 adult titles checked out from Hennepin County Libraries were fiction. The one non-fiction title in the top 25 — both in 2011 and 2012 — was “Unbroken: A World War II Story of Survival, Resilience, and Redemption.” Once again crime and mystery fiction by well-known writers such as John Sandford, Janet Evanovich, Sue Grafton, and James Patterson were clear favorites. 1.
