MPCA Issues Air Pollution Health Advisory for Monday

Ozone levels are expected to peak Monday afternoon.

If the recent heat wave isn't enough to deter you from outdoor activity, the quality of the air expected this afternoon just might. The Minnesota Pollution Control Agency (MPCA) has issued another air pollution health advisory for Monday, July 2, due to expected increases in ozone pollution for the Twin Cities metro and Rochester. The health advisory runs until midnight. The advisory indicates that ozone levels are expected to be near a level that is considered unhealthy for sensitive groups, including those with preexisting respiratory conditions, the elderly, children, and individuals who participate in outdoor activities requiring extended or heavy exertion. (UPDATED) Burning Now OK in SLP

A burning restriction was in place Friday due to poor air quality.

UPDATE (June 30, 2:50 p.m.) - The burning restriction in St. Louis Park has been lifted. June 29 - Due to concerns over air quality on Friday, open burning is currently not allowed in St. Louis Park. This includes all recreational fires. If someone is burning, the fire department will extinguish the fire. The Minnesota Pollution Control Agency initially issued an air pollution health advisory for the Twin Cities from noon to midnight on Friday, but that alert has been cancelled because a storm system developing in the Dakotas is promoting cloud formation across Minnesota today. The increased cloud coverage is expected to slow the production of ozone pollution. Still, air quality is not good enough for open burning in St. Louis Park. Stay …
