What's Open, Closed for Veterans Day 2013 in St. Louis Park

Some businesses and city hall will be closed Monday for Veterans Day.

Veteran Day "originated as 'Armistice Day' on Nov. 11, 1919, the first anniversary of the end of World War I, according to the U.S. Census website. "Congress passed a resolution in 1926 for an annual observance, and Nov. 11 became a national holiday beginning in 1938. President Dwight D. Eisenhower signed legislation in 1954 to change the name to Veterans Day as a way to honor those who served in all American wars."

Banks: Most banks are closed on Monday, but you should check with your particular branch. (U.S. Bank will be open from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m.)

Businesses: Some businesses could choose to close Monday. Please call ahead before heading out to shop.

City Hall: The city offices will be closed Monday.

Fire: Firefighters will be working on Monday.

Garbage: Garbage collection will remain the same on Veterans Day and the entire week.

Library: The St. Louis Park Library will be closed Monday.

Police: Police officers will be on duty Monday.

Post office: All post offices will be closed.

Senior Center: The St. Louis Park Senior Program in Lenox Community Center will have a regular schedule on Monday.

Schools: Schools will be open Monday.

Transportation: Metro Transit will run on Monday.
