SLP 3-Year-Old Inspires Haiti Fundraiser

World Wide Village is aiming to raise $2 million to build homes in Haiti.

Last summer, Hannah Grosser, a 3-year-old from St. Louis Park, saw pictures of a Haitian widow and her children still living in a tent amid the ruins of their home after the January 2010 earthquake.

As many 3-year-olds would do, Hannah turned to lemonade and cookies to help. A stand operated by her, four friends and parents netted $89. That money was donated to St. Paul nonprofit World Wide Village.

Today, WWV is announcing a push to turn that $89 into $2 million, which could build 400 homes in Haiti. The "Raise the Roof in Haiti" campaign will include direct appeals to current donors and supporters, as well as reaching out to other communities, like builders, churches and civic organizations.
