With ornate, decorative bowls to take home, St. Louis Park residents filled simpler plastic bowls with soup from local restaurants and raised money for a great cause.
The held its 10th-annual "Empty Bowls" fundraiser on Thursday at the , with residents being invited to both an afternoon lunch and an evening dinner. The event showcased local art in the form of the decorative bowls, which were on display on the first floor of the building. After making a donation, guests were invited to pick a pretty bowl to take home. Then, it was off to lunch or dinner upstairs.
Local restaurants such as the , and provided the soup and bread. Guests were then entertained with music from the chamber orchestra, as well as from the cast of the school's production of "Aladdin."
When all the spoons were resting on the bottom of empty bowls, more than 800 guests had raised roughly $13,500 for STEP — enough to stock the food shelf for two months, volunteer coordinator Kate Burggraff said.
