SLP Opera Singer Ousted in Fair Semis

St. Louis Park opera singer Heather Hjelle was eliminated from the Minnesota State Fair Talent Show during Sunday's semifinals.

"I had an amazing time, but unfortunately I didn't advance to the finals," she said in an email.

Hjelle only started singing opera two years ago, when her college singing teacher suggested she give it a try. While she said making the finals was of course a goal, she was really looking at the talent show as just another opportunity for her to practice her craft.

"I look at it as just another chance to audition," she said in an interview with Patch last week. "It's kind of an honor (just to be in the show)."
