Road Construction in the Twin Cities This Week

What roads should you avoid this holiday week? We have the breakdown by Twin Cities region: northwest, north, east, central, south and west.

Here is a list of some of current road construction projects, according to the Minnesota Department of Transportation (MnDOT)Hennepin County and Dakota County.

NORTHWEST

Monticello/St. Michael

I-94 in both directions: Nighttime construction workBetween MN 25 (Monticello) and MN 241 (St. Michael). Night time construction work is in progress. The road is being repaved. A lane is closed. Width limit 11 feet. From 7 p.m. to 10 a.m. on weekends, Mondays, Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays until Aug. 22. Nighttime work—concrete pavement rehab—I-94 from 0.9 mi. E. of CSAH 18 to Crow River Bridge, June 3 to Aug. 17, 2013, lane closures from 7 p.m. to 10 a.m. Saturday through Thursday nights.

Maple Grove/Plymouth

US 169 in both directions: Road reconstructionBetween Highway 55 (Plymouth) and Exit 138: 77th Avenue North (Maple Grove). The road is being reconstructed until Aug. 29. Project involves pavement removal and replacement.

NORTH

Golden Valley

County Road 40 (Glenwood Avenue): County Road 40 (Glenwood Avenue North), west of Xenia Avenue/Turners Crossroads, will be closed to traffic starting 7 a.m. Friday, July 26. After the construction of a sanitary sewer main, the road is anticipated to reopen by Monday, July 29. A marked detour will be provided.

Brooklyn Center

Hennepin County Road 10 (57th Avenue North) in both directions: Bridge constructionAt Highway 100. Bridge construction work is in progress. The bridge is closed until Aug. 16.

County Road 10-Bass Lake Road: Remove and reconstruct bridge deck until fall 2013.

Brooklyn Park

Hennepin County Road 30 (93rd Avenue North) in both directions: Major road construction between 6th Avenue Northeast and Xylon Avenue near Brooklyn Park until Oct. 31. This is the reconstruction of the interchange between US 169 and 93rd Avenue. The road is closed to traffic.

Arden Hills/Brooklyn Center

I-694 in both directions: Major road constructionBetween Highway 100 (Brooklyn Center) and I-35W (Arden Hills). Major road construction work is in progress. Width limit 11 feet. Single lane nightly between 7 p.m. and 6 a.m. and two lanes daily between 6 a.m. and 7 p.m. until Sept. 27.

Arden Hills/Shoreview

I-694 in both directions: Long-term road constructionBetween 35W (Arden Hills) and Exit 104C: Victoria Street (Shoreview). Look out for long-term road construction work until Nov. 15. Width limit 10 feet. There will be ramp closures and non-peak lane closures.

Pine Springs

MN 36: Road construction: At Hilton Trail (Pine Springs). Follow the detour signs. There is a width limit in effect. See map for detour(s). Width limit 12 feet. Southbound Hilton Trail to eastbound Highway 36 is closed. Detour is westbound 36 to southbound 694, follow both loops to eastbound 36 until Nov. 15.

CENTRAL

St. Paul

I-35E in both directions: Bridge constructionBetween Exit 107C: University Avenue and Exit 109: Maryland Avenue (St. Paul). Bridge construction work is in progress until Dec. 31, 2015. The Cayuga Project includes multiple construction sites.

US 52 in both directions: Bridge construction: At 94; MN 803A (St. Paul). Bridge construction work is in progress until Sept. 15, 2014. No vehicle or vehicle combinations over 35 feet are allowed to use the Lafayette Bridge north of Plato Blvd until the crossover is removed (Early 2014).

Minneapolis

County Road 33-Park Avenue: Closure for bridge rehabilitation until August 2013

County Road 35-Portland Avenue: Closure for bridge rehabilitation until mid-August 2013.

Minneapolis/Bloomington

494: Major road construction: Between Exit 1B: 34th Avenue South (Minneapolis) and Highway 100 (Bloomington). Major road construction work is in progress until Sept. 30.

EAST

Oak Park Heights

MN 36: Bridge constructionThe St. Croix Crossing is being built connecting Oak Park Heights, MN, and St. Joseph, WI. Look out for a new road construction layout until Sept. 16, 2016.

Lakeland

I-94: Major road constructionAt Wisconsin State Line (Lakeland). Major road construction work is in progress until Nov. 15.

SOUTH

Rosemount

Minnesota 3 in both directions: Center lane closed: Between Dakota County Road 41 and Biscayne Avenue West (Rosemount), the center lane is closed. Work on underground services is in progress until August 30. Traffic is shifted to the east side until Aug. 30.

Kenyon/Randolph

MN 56 in both directions: Road closed to traffic between Minnesota 60 (Kenyon) and Dakota County Road 88 (near Randolph) for repaving until Sept. 15. Permitted oversize loads are prohibited. See map for detour(s). In Goodhue County on Highway 56 from Trondheim Road (Kenyon) to the Cannon River, motorists will be detoured to Highway 60, Highway 57, Highway 52, Highway 19, Highway 20, Goodhue County Road 17 and Dakota County Road 88.

Faribault

MN 60 in both directions: Road closed to traffic between I-35 and Minnesota 21 (near Faribault) until Sept. 20. The road is closed to traffic. Bridge construction work is in progress. See map for detour(s). Grading, Bituminous Mill & Overlay, Lighting, Traffic Signal, ADA Improvements and Bridge 66X04 between Park Avenue and Hulett Avenue in Faribault.

Lakeville

County Road 9This project is the reconstruction of County Road 9 (Dodd Boulevard) from 183rd Street to 500 feet east of Hayes Avenue in Lakeville. County Road 9 will become a four-lane divided roadway with a roundabout intersection at County Road 9 and Highview Avenue. The project also includes the reconstruction of Highview Avenue from approximately 1,100 feet south of County Road 9 to 175th Street. The project is expected to be completed in late September 2013.

Burnsville/Eagan

I-35E in both directions: Roadway reduced to one lane between I-35; I-35W (Burnsville) and Minnesota 77 (Eagan). Major road construction work continues until Aug. 9. There are speed restrictions.

Burnsville

MN 13 in both directions: Major road constructionBetween Washburn Avenue and Nicollet Avenue (Burnsville). Major road construction work is in progress until Oct. 1.

Shakopee

US 169 in both directions: Roadway reduced to one lane starting at 10 p.m. July 26 until Aug. 9. The closure will be between Scott County Road 69 (Shakopee) and Pioneer Trail (Bloomington). At the same time the following ramps to southbound Highway 169 will close:

Pioneer Trail, Old Shakopee Road, Highway 101 and County Road 21. Motorists are advised to follow the signed detour or find alternative routes to minimize delays. Once southbound is complete (approx two weeks), all traffic will be shifted to south side and work will begin on northbound lanes.

WEST

Chaska

MN 41 southbound: Right lane and right shoulder closed between US 169 and US 912C (near Chaska) from July 29-30 due to bridge inspection.

Chanhassen

MN 5 in both directions: Roadway reduced to one lane between Minnesota 41 and Minnesota 101 (Chanhassen). Traffic signal maintenance work continues until Aug. 2.

MN 101 in both directions: Road closed between Pioneer Trail and Lyman Boulevard until Nov. 15.

Minnetrista

MN 7: Road closed at Hennepin County Road 11 (Minnetrista) starting Monday until Oct. 31. Construction of roundabout project. Detour will be in place.

Edina/St. Louis Park

US 169 in both directions: Bridge construction between Exit 105BC (Edina) and Exit 128B (Cedar Lake Road-Saint Louis Park) until Sept. 27. Expect intermittent non-peak or overnight lane closures for the remainder of the project.
