(VIDEO) Podein Scores in NHL Alumni Game

The St. Louis Park boys hockey head coach took part in the Winter Classic over the weekend.

Shjon Podein played parts of five NHL seasons with the Philadelphia Flyers in the 1990s, and on Saturday he got one more game—and goal—in front of the hometown faithful.

Podein, who is in his first season as head coach of the St. Louis Park boys hockey team, took part in the Winter Classic Alumni Game, which pitted former Flyers versus former New York Rangers in an outdoor game held at Citizens Bank Park, home of MLB's Philadelphia Phillies.

With a little more than eight minutes left in the first period, and with the old-time Flyers up 1-0, Podein took a rebound in front of the New York net and slammed it home (see video above).

"I told the guys my goal was to not get injured out there," Podein said jokingly. "Anything else was a bonus."

The goal got the home crowd rocking, and Podein cracked a smile as he skated around the ice. Known as an enforcer when he played in the NHL, perhaps it was fitting that Podein did all of this sans helmet.

"It was a blast," he said. "I love playing in Philly."

The alumni Flyers went on to win, 3-1. Podein's current team has a home game tonight against Rogers at 7 p.m.
