SLP Athletes Off to National Track Meet

The Flyers had 14 different athletes qualify for the national Junior Olympics meet, which will take place July 26-31 at Wichita State University.

Fourteen members of the St. Louis Park Flyers track and field team qualified to compete at the USA Track and Field National Junior Olympic Championships on July 26-31 in Wichita, KS.

Park had six athletes take first place at the Region 8 meet—which consisted of Minnesota Iowa, Wisconsin, North Dakota and South Dakota—on July 7-10 at Hamline University.

Jackson Sokolowski, 12, won first place in the 800 meter run in the Midget boys age group, and Faith Robinson, 10, took first in the long jump in the Bantam girls age group. She also took second in the 100 meter dash, which also qualified for the national meet.

In the relay competition, Sokoloski, Brett Duncan, 10, Brendon Snyders, 10, and McKein Keys, 11, took first place in the Midget boys 4x400 meter relay.

The national meet will take place at Wichita State University’s Cessna Stadium. Entry to the national tournament is based on athletes’ performances at the preliminary, association and regional levels. The top five finishers in each event at regionals qualify for the national meet, according to the USATF website.

The Junior Olympic program is broken down into six, two-year age division with athletes generally falling between the ages of 8 and 18.

1.   Brett Duncan, first as a participant in the 4x400 Midget Relay

2.   Jazmine Edmond, 9, fourth in Bantam High Jump, third as a participant in  4x100 Bantam Relay

3.   Janeir Harris, 10, third in Bantam 100 meter dash, fourth in Bantam 200 meter dash

4.   Calvin Hatcher, 10, fifth in Bantam High Jump

5.   McKein Keys, first as a participant in the 4x400 Midget Relay

6.   Maddy McIntosh, 10, fifth in Bantam Long Jump, third as a participant in  4x100 Bantam Relay

7.   Manny Phoulom-Smith, 11, fifth in midget 80 meter hurdles

8.   Faith Robinson, first in Bantams long jump, second in Bantam 100 meter dash

9.   Grace Robinson, 9, third in Bantam High Jump

10.  Brendon Snyders, first as a participant in the 4x400 Midget Relay

11.  Jackson Sokolowski, first in 800, second in 1500, first as a participant in the 4x400 Midget Relay

12.  Maddie Tadewald, 9, third as a participant in  4x100 Bantam Relay

13.  Tea' Turner, 10, third as a participant in  4x100 Bantam Relay

14.  Denzell Oats, 16, second in Intermediate High Jump
