Spring Season Ends For Several Local Squads

Benilde-St. Margaret's boys lacrosse is the only area team to survive sectional playoffs to this point.

It was a rough stretch for most local teams last week as several squads from and saw their spring seasons come to a close with sectional playoff losses.

Benilde-St. Margaret's Boys Lacrosse: Red Knights Survive, Advance

The Benilde-St. Margaret's boys lacrosse team was the lone local team involved in the sectional playoffs last week to survive, as the No. 1-ranked and top-seeded Red Knights advanced to the Section 5 semifinals by topping Minneapolis, 18-5, in quarterfinal play last Friday.

BSM easily improved to 14-0 this season as Christian Rekow led the way on the scoresheet with five goals in the victory, followed by Will Hoesley's four goals and three tallies from Christian Horn.

The Red Knights host Holy Angels on Tuesday at 7 p.m., with the victor advancing to the sectional finals at 5 p.m. Thursday evening at Bloomington Kennedy High School.

St. Louis Park Girls Lacrosse: Orioles Eliminated By Cretin-Derham Hall

Seventh-seeded St. Louis Park made a game of it, but eventually fell by a lone goal, 11-10, to No. 2 seed Cretin-Derham Hall in the quarterfinals of the Section 5 girls lacrosse playoffs.

Individual results for the contest were not made available. Lauren Bruun-Bryant led the Orioles with 38 regular-season goals this spring, with Ellie Hoppmann and Callee Amos scoring 17 and 11 goals, respectively, for a St. Louis Park team that went 10-4.

Benilde-St. Margaret's Baseball: Red Knights Ousted By Kennedy

Bloomington Kennedy blitzed the Benilde-St. Margaret's baseball team in its Section 6AAA playoff opener and eliminated the Red Knights from the postseason by a score of 14-4 in five innings last Friday.

The Eagles were the beneficiary of five BSM errors and scored in each inning except the third, while the host Red Knights mustered up lone runs in the first and second and two more in the fourth en route to the stunning defeat.

Spencer Shaver led BSM offensively with a 2-for-2 day at the plate, driving in two runs and scoring once himself. Starting pitcher Jimmy Heck took the loss for the Red Knights, who finished the season with a 14-6 record.

Benilde-St. Margaret's Girls Lacrosse: Red Knights Eliminated By Blake

The ninth-seeded Benilde-St. Margaret's girls lacrosse team was booted from the Section 5 playoffs in a 17-5 loss at No. 1 seeded Blake last Friday.

Individual statistics from the game were not made available. Maddy Moore led the Red Knights with 21 regular-season goals, with Sara Taffe scoring 19 goals and Paige Lawlor 17 goals for 7-8-1 BSM.
