SLP Boys Hoops Falls in Tourney Final

A season of near-misses continued for the Orioles on Thursday night.

After topping Northfield on Wednesday to advance to the championship game of the Edina Holiday Classic, Park couldn't get past the host Hornets a night later, falling in overtime, 82-70.

The Orioles trailed by 10 at halftime before a furious second-half rally sent the game into the extra period tied at 67. But Edina outscored Park 15-3 in OT to claim the championship.

DJ Pollard led the way for the Orioles with 24 points, while Kashif Hayes added 20. They were the only two Park players in double figures.

The loss was another in a string of tough ones for Park—the Orioles' previous four defeats came by a total of 14 points, and the biggest margin was seven.

Up next for the Orioles is a Tuesday home game against Columbia Heights.

BSM Boys Hoops Wins Tourney

The Red Knights knocked off host Eden Prairie on Thursday to claim the championship in a holiday tournament.

The 80-68 victory brought BSM's record to 7-1 on the season, with wins over Minnetonka and Hopkins already under the belt. The Red Knights are currently the No. 1 team in Class 3A.

On Thursday, they were lead by 20 points apiece from Sanjay Lumpkin and Isaiah Zierden. Isaiah Gray added 19.

BSM will next host Columbia Heights on Thursday.

SLP Girls Hoops Wins Consolation Game

The Orioles were able to win a consolation game in the Simley Holiday Tournament on Thursday.

After dropping games on Tuesday and Wednesday to host Simley and St. Paul Como Park, respectively, the Orioles knocked off St. Croix Lutheran, 56-53.

Individual statistics were not immediately available.

St. Louis Park's next game is Tuesday at Columbia Heights.

SLP Boys Hockey Takes Their Lumps in Duluth

After heading into the Duluth Heritage Holiday Hockey Tournament 6-0, the Orioles suffered their first two losses of the season against tough competition.

The first loss came on Tuesday, 6-0 to Duluth Denfeld (No. 1 in Class A). On Wednesday, Rosemount topped Park, 3-1. The Orioles were able to notch a 3-3 tie against Buffalo on Thursday in the tournament finale.

In that game, senior goalie Ryan Nichols stopped 37 of 40 shots to keep Park close. Curtis Greenbush, Alec Baer and Tyler Brodersen scored a goal apiece.

The Orioles will host Rogers on Tuesday in their next game.

BSM Boys Hockey Onto Tourney Final

The Red Knights have a chance to win the St. Louis Park Holiday Classic tonight, but the hosts will have to avenge a previous loss to do so.

After knocking off Centennial in the first round on Wednesday, 4-3, then topping Moorhead in Thursday's semifinals, 5-3, BSM will get Maple Grove at 7:30 p.m. Friday in the final.

Maple Grove (No. 3 in Class AA) beat the Red Knights (No. 8) on Dec. 20, 5-4.

SLP Girls Hockey Drops First Two in Schwan Cup

Playing in one of the most prestigious hockey tournaments of the year, the Orioles lost tough games on Wednesday and Thursday.

In their Schwan Cup (Red Division) opener, the Orioles lost to Henry Sibley, 7-1. Park then fell to the St. Croix Valley Fusion, 6-0.

The Orioles wrap up Schwan Cup action at noon today versus Bloomington Kennedy.
