Sports Round-up: Red Knights Girls Hockey Goes 11-0 In North Suburban

Benilde-St. Margaret's closed out its regular season with a 5-1 win versus Irondale, while St. Louis Park hockey was swept in boys and girls games.

The Benilde-St. Margaret's girls hockey team clinched the North Suburban Conference title in convincing manner on a Saturday that also saw the St. Louis Park boys and girls hockey squads lose by margins both large and small.

Benilde-St. Margaret's Girls Hockey: Red Knights 5, Irondale 1

BSM closed out the regular season by defeating top North Suburban Conference rival Irondale, 5-1, at the St. Louis Park Rec Center.

The victory clinched a perfect 11-0 record in the conference and gave the Red Knights the North Suburban title as Jordyn Burns scored twice, with Catherine Keenan, Kelly Pannek and Brittany Wheeler logging one goal apiece.

BSM, 21-2-1 overall, will begin postseason play in the Section 6AA Tournament next Saturday against a yet-to-be-determined opponent.

St. Louis Park Boys Hockey: Richfield 5, Orioles 4 (OT)

A 5-4 overtime loss to Richfield dropped the St. Louis Park boys hockey team to 1-18 on the season.

The Orioles rallied late, scoring three third-period goals to force the overtime session before the visiting Spartans notched the game-winner in the added interval.

Ryan Froom made 52 saves in the St. Louis Park goal, while Tyler Brodersen scored twice; Justin Brown and Nick Gaitan-Gaitan each notched one score apiece in the loss.

Next up for the Orioles is a return to North Suburban play against Irondale at 7 p.m. Tuesday night in the Rec Center; Park is 1-8 in conference contests.

St. Louis Park Girls Hockey: Spring Lake Park 7, Orioles 1

The St. Louis Park girls hockey team completed the regular season with a 7-1 loss at Spring Lake Park.

Megan Berens scored the lone goal of the game for the Orioles, who's record fell to 3-21-1 overall and 1-12 in the North Suburban.

Park begins its playoff run in the Section 5A bracket on either Thursday or Friday evening against a yet-to-be-determined opponent.
