Sports Roundup: Orioles, Red Knights Run At Basset Creek

St. Louis Park and Benilde-St. Margaret's cross-country teams both competed in the Ron Kretsch Invitational on Saturday.

The weather was warm, but right for a run, and cross-country teams from both and both competed in an invitational meet to highlight the weekend sports calendar.

Red Knights Cross-Country Competes in Crystal

The BSM boys and girls cross-country teams took fourth and ninth, respectively, at the Ron Kretsch Invitational at Bassett Creek Park in Crystal on Saturday. Sixteen boys teams and 13 girls teams competed.

Jay Biwer led the Red Knights boys with an 18th-place run of 10 minutes, 58 seconds.

Nicole Sauer paced the BSM girls with a 21st-place finish in 9:24, with Maggie Conry (9:52, 45th place) and Becca Halpin (9:53, 46th) also breaking the 10-minute mark and placing in the top 50.

Orioles Cross-Country Competes in Crystal, Too

The Park boys and girls cross-country teams also competed in the Kretsch Invite, taking sixth and 11th, respectively.

Orioles boys runners Dominic Reed and Andrew Jewell took 10th and 11th, respectively, in identical 10:45 times, with Elliot Slade (11:14) in 34th and Nick Sokolowski (11:21) in 39th.

The Park girls were led by Grace Williams (9:30) in 24th and Marcie James (9:48) in 40th.

Red Knights Boys Soccer Wins on the Road

A 2-1 win at sixth-ranked Rochester Lourdes on Saturday kept the No. 1-ranked BSM boys soccer team undefeated at 5-0-1.

Jake Horton and Paul Graupner scored for the Red Knights, with goalkeeper Alex Leitner making three saves to improve to 2-0-1 in the net.

Red Knights Volleyball Competes in Tourney

The BSM volleyball team finished eighth in the Coon Rapids Keller Classic tournament on Saturday. 

The Red Knights defeated Mahtomedi in three matches (best-of-three format) in the first round, then lost to Grand Rapids, Coon Rapids and Farmington—all in three matches—to fall to 2-6 on the season.

Red Knights Girls Tennis Wins Easily

A 7-0 sweep of Irondale on Friday upped the BSM girls tennis team to 7-2 on the season. Individual statistics were not made available.
