Sports Roundup: Orioles, Red Knights Ease Into Post-Labor Day Schedule

St. Louis Park soccer teams went 2-for-2 at Columbia Heights in conference openers.

It was a light schedule for both and athletic programs on the first day back to school on Tuesday, as many of the Orioles and Red Knights squads are waiting until later in the week to begin their post-Labor Day slates.

Orioles Boys Soccer Rolls

It was an impressive start to the North Suburban Conference season for the Park boys soccer team, as the Orioles earned a shutout victory, 6-0, at Columbia Heights on Tuesday night.

The win evened Park's record at 2-2 on the year. Through four games, Luke VonEschen and Aaron Stern lead the team with two goals apiece, with Samuel Brimacomb, Jesse Abelson, Jeremy Davis and Steven Karl each netting a goal apiece. Goalkeeper Nick Gaitan-Gaitan has recorded saves on 22 of the 25 shots he has faced thus far.

Next up for the Orioles is a trip to Spring Lake Park for a 7 p.m. match-up against the Panthers in their lone remaining game of the week.

Orioles Girls Soccer Completes the Sweep

Making it a clean sweep at Columbia Heights was the Park girls soccer team, which won Tuesday night's North Suburban nightcap by an 8-0 score and completed the back-to-back shutout evening with the boys squad.

The victory also improved the Orioles girls squad to 2-2 on the year. Lauren Miller leads the team with four goals through four games, with Chloe Chong logging two goals so far; Hannah Geressu, Anna Huber, Samantha Rempfer and Jenna Sheldon have one goal apiece this season.

Park heads to Spring Lake Park on Thursday for its lone remaining game of the week, taking on the Panthers in a 5 p.m. start.

Red Knights Volleyball Falls

The BSM volleyball team dropped to 1-2 on the season with a three-game match loss (15-25, 22-25, 23-25) to visiting Minneapolis Southwest on Tuesday night.

Individual statistics were not made available. The Red Knights host North Branch at 7 p.m. Thursday night, then compete in the Coon Rapids Tournament on Saturday.

Orioles Volleyball Continues Rough Start

It's been a rough start to the season for the Park volleyball team, as the Orioles have yet to win a game in their first four match losses of the season.

Park had another 3-0 loss (11-25, 16-25, 16-25) on Tuesday night, falling to host North Branch in the North Suburban opener. 

Individual statistics were not made available. The Orioles host Totino-Grace at 7 p.m. Thursday night in their lone remaining match of the week.
