Sports Roundup: Orioles, Red Knights Boys Soccer Teams Tied Atop North Suburban

St. Louis Park wins, Benilde-St. Margaret's falls on Tuesday to forge a three-way deadlock in the conference.

With one game left to go in the regular season, the and boys soccer teams find themselves locked in a three-way tie with Spring Lake Park atop the North Suburban Conference standings after an Orioles win and a Red Knights loss on Tuesday night.

Orioles Boys Soccer Wins at Home

The Park boys soccer team entered Tuesday one game behind BSM in the conference race, but the Orioles did their part to forge a tie with a 3-1 win over St. Francis at home.

Alex Kubitza, Jesse Abelson and Gmoh Kanneh scored for Park, with goalkeeper Nick Gaitan-Gaitan making eight saves as the Orioles improved to 11-3 overall and 8-1 in the North Suburban with a home game against Totino-Grace all that's left.

Park hosts the Eagles on Wednesday at 7 p.m. Claiming a win to assure a share of the conference title will be daunting task as Totino-Grace holds a 7-2 conference record and is 9-5 overall.

Red Knights Boys Soccer Falls

After BSM cruised through its first eight conference games without a blemish, Spring Lake Park put a big dent in the Red Knights' hopes of claiming the North Suburban title all for themselves as the Panthers topped the No. 2-ranked Red Knights, 1-0. BSM is now tied with St. Louis Park and Spring Lake Park.

Individual statistics were not made available. BSM fell to 12-2-1 overall and 8-1 in the North Suburban with a Thursday night contest at Chisago Lakes (6-7-1 overall, 3-6 NSC) remaining. Spring Lake Park hosts St. Francis (5-10, 3-6) on Thursday.

Orioles Girls Soccer Wins in Overtime

The Park girls soccer team needed overtime to claim a 6-5 victory against visiting St. Francis on Tuesday behind four goals from Hannah Geressu and one tally apiece from Rachel Geressu and Lauren Miller.

With the win, the Orioles remain one-half game behind BSM in the conference race with a 7-0-2 North Suburban mark to go with an 8-2-3 overall record.

Park hosts fourth-ranked Totino Grace (10-3-1, 7-2) on Thursday in the regular-season finale.

Red Knights Girls Soccer Stays in Conference Lead

A 4-1 win at Spring Lake Park on Tuesday kept the No. 1-ranked BSM girls soccer team undefeated this autumn at 12-0-2. It also sustained the Red Knights' one-half game lead atop the conference with an 8-0-1 circuit record.

Peggy Renier, Dana Buckhorn, Kelly Pannek and Maria Michels all scored for BSM in the victory. The Red Knights play at Chisago Lakes (10-1-4, 6-1-2) in the final North Suburban contest on Thursday, then close out the regular season at 7 p.m. Saturday versus visiting Rogers.

Orioles Cross-Country Race in Chaska

The Park boys and girls cross-country teams finished 13th and 23rd, respectively, in their appearances at the Victoria Lions Invitational in Chaska on Tuesday.

Domonic Reed led the Orioles boys with a 50th-place finish in 17 minutes, 13.2 seconds, while Grace Williams paced the Park girls with a 47th-place run of 16:05.5.

Red Knights Cross-Country Compete at Fox Hollow

Fox Hollow Golf Course hosted the Rogers Invitational on Monday, with the BSM boys and girls cross-country teams finishing fourth and fifth, respectively, on a sunny afternoon.

Maggie Conry led the Red Knights girls with a fifth-place time of 17:05, while Ryan Stowe topped the BSM boys with a time of 17:50 for 15th place.

Orioles Volleyball Falls

The Park volleyball team fell to 1-14 this season with a 3-0 loss at Park Center on Monday. Individual statistics were not made available.
