Sports Roundup: Orioles Boys Hoops Team Tops Cooper

The St. Louis Park boys basketball team narrowly defeated the Hawks, while Benilde-St. Margaret's won in girls hockey.

The St. Louis Park boys basketball and Benilde-St. Margaret's girls hockey teams were the big local winners on Friday night — the Orioles by two points, the Red Knights by six goals.

St. Louis Park Boys Hockey: Orioles 53, Robbinsdale Cooper 51

The St. Louis Park boys basketball team leveled its record at 6-6 on the season and improved to 3-1 in the North Suburban Conference with a 53-51 victory at Robbinsdale Cooper.

Behind 13 points from Quintin Wagner and 11 points from Marquealis Edwards, the Orioles took a 29-27 halftime lead before playing the Hawks to a draw in a thrilling second half to claim the road victory against the conference's newest member.

St. Louis Park remains on the road next Tuesday for a 7:15 p.m. matchup at Totino-Grace.

Benilde-St. Margaret's Girls Hockey: Red Knights 6, Totino-Grace 0

The Benilde-St. Margaret's girls hockey team honored Jordyn Burns, Taylor Curtiss, Amy Johnson, Kathryn Martin and Tiana Press on Senior Night at the St. Louis Park Rec Center, then went about shutting out Totino-Grace by a 6-0 score to remain perfect in the North Suburban.

The six Red Knights goals came from six different players as Brittany Wheeler, Kelly Pannek, Ali Praus, Aly Hoffman, Sara Taffe and Burns all scored, while Press made 20 saves to earn the shutout.

Benilde improved to 16-2-1 overall and 7-0 in conference play with the win. The Red Knights are off for a week before traveling to the New Hope Ice Arena to play Cooper/Heritage/Providence at 7 p.m. next Friday.

St. Louis Park Girls Basketball: Robbinsdale Cooper 67, Orioles 33

A 67-33 home loss against North Suburban rival Robbinsdale Cooper dropped the St. Louis Park girls basketball team to 4-9 overall and 1-5 in conference play.

Paris Delaney led the Orioles with seven points in the loss.

St. Louis Park hosts Totino-Grace next Tuesday night at 7:15 p.m.

St. Louis Park Girls Hockey: Chisago Lakes 5, Orioles 1

Forward Abby Bongaarts scored the lone goal of the game for the St. Louis Park girls hockey team in a 5-1 loss at Chisago Lakes.

Hannah Brodersen made 41 saves in the Orioles goal as her team fell to 3-16-1 overall and 1-7 in the North Suburban with the conference loss.

St. Louis Park hosts Cooper/Heritage/Providence next Thursday night at 6 p.m.
