Sports Round-up: Red Knights, Orioles Boys Clinch Top Two Conference Hoops Spots

Benilde-St. Margaret's and St. Louis Park both opened the final week of the regular season with wins Tuesday night.

The and boys basketball teams locked up sole possession of the top two places in the North Suburban Conference this winter with victories on Tuesday night to open the final week of the regular season.

Benilde-St. Margaret's Boys Basketball: Red Knights 69, Totino-Grace 47

A 69-47 win at Totino-Grace gave Benilde-St. Margaret's the outright championship in the North Suburban with a 14-1 conference mark.

The Red Knights got 14 points from both Evan Battle and Myles Barnes, and 10 points from Sanjay Lumpkin to cruise to the 22-point victory and improve to 21-4 overall.

BSM, which holds a two-game conference lead over St. Louis Park, hosts Chisago Lakes in the final game of the regular season on Friday night, with a tip-off of 7:15 p.m. scheduled.

St. Louis Park Boys Basketball: Orioles 96, Chisago Lakes 54

The St. Louis Park boys basketball team clinched the North Suburban runner-up slot with a 96-54 win at Chisago Lakes to improve to 12-3 in the circuit.

The Orioles lead both Columbia Heights and Irondale by two games in the conference standings after getting a game-high 23 points from Marquealis Edwards in the 42-point thumping.

Five St. Louis Park players in all recorded double digits on the night, with Joseph Zangel notching 20 points, TJ Gist 16 points, Kashif Hayes 11 points and Aaron Ziman 10 points.

Fridley pays the Orioles a visit for the last pre-playoff game of the winter on Friday night with a 7:15 p.m. start.

Orioles Girls Hoopsters Open Section 6AAAA Play Tonight

The St. Louis Park girls basketball team begins the Section 6AAAA Tournament tonight.

The eighth-seeded Orioles have the unenviable task of playing at No. 1 seed Hopkins beginning at 7 p.m. St. Louis Park enters the playoffs with a 7-19 record; the Royals are 24-2.
