Sports Round-up: Orioles, Red Knights Girls Hoopsters Close Regular Seasons

Benilde-St. Margaret's claimed the North Suburban Conference title outright with a defeat of Robbinsdale Cooper.

All four varsity basketball teams from and were in action on Friday night, with the Red Knights and Orioles girls hoopsters closing out their regular-season campaigns against North Suburban Conference opponents.

Benilde-St. Margaret's Girls Basketball: Red Knights 58, Cooper 49

The Benilde-St. Margaret's girls basketball team claimed the North Suburban championship outright as a 58-49 defeat of second-place Robbinsdale Cooper put the finishing stamp on a 16-0 circuit record.

BSM entered the game needing a victory to avoid sharing the conference crown with the Hawks and got the nine-point victory. Khadijah Shumpert led the Red Knights with 12 points as Sarah Kopp and Josie Dillon recorded 11 and 10 points, respectively.

Next up for BSM is an opening-round match-up in the Section 6AAA playoffs, with the top-seeded Red Knights playing either No. 8 Mound-Westonka or No. 9 Minneapolis North at home at 7 p.m. Thursday.

St. Louis Park Girls Basketball: St. Francis 56, Orioles 31

The St. Louis Park girls basketball team fell to 7-19 overall and 4-12 in the North Suburban with a 56-31 home loss to St. Francis.

Mara Olson led the Orioles with 14 points, while Cianna Edwards recorded 10 points in the loss.

St. Louis Park enters the Section 6AAAA playoffs as the No. 8 seed, playing at No. 1 Hopkins on Wednesday at 7 p.m.

Benilde-St.Margaret's Boys Basketball: Red Knights 66, Cooper 62

The Benilde-St. Margaret's boys basketball team improved to 20-4 overall and 13-1 in the North Suburban with a 66-62 win at Robbinsdale Cooper.

Isaiah Gray led the Red Knights with 24 points, while Evan Battle and Sanjay Lumpkin both recording 13 points apiece.

BSM plays at Totino-Grace at 7:15 p.m. Tuesday before closing out the regular season at home against Chisago Lakes at 7:15 p.m. Friday.

St. Louis Park Boys Basketball: Orioles 84, St. Francis 52

An 84-52 win at St. Francis improved the St. Louis Park boys basketball team to 15-9 overall and 11-3 in the North Suburban.

Aaron Ziman and Kashif Hayes both scored 14 points, Marquealis Edwards and Joseph Zangel each recorded 13 points, and Garrison Gillard and TJ Gist both chipped in 11 points in the win.

St. Louis Park travels to Chisago Lakes at 7:15 p.m. Tuesday before hosting Fridley in the regular-season finale at 7:15 p.m. Friday.
