Sports Round-up: Local Boys Hockey Teams Conclude Regular Seasons

The Benilde-St. Margaret's wrestling team also competed in a sectional tournament Saturday.

The winter sports campaign marched closer to its conclusion on Saturday as the and boys hockey teams concluded their regular seasons, and the Red Knights wrestlers competed in a sectional tournament.

Benilde-St. Margaret's Boys Hockey: Red Knights 4, Stillwater 0

The shutout win at Stillwater closed out the Benilde-St. Margaret's boys hockey team's regular season in style. The Red Knights take a 21-4 record into the Section 6AA playoffs this week.

The North Suburban Conference co-champions were led by Justin Quale, who made 11 saves, as well as Jake Horton, who scored twice. Pat Steinhauser and T.J. Moore chipped in one goal apiece.

Seedings for 6AA tournament were announced on Sunday, with BSM claiming the No. 3 slot in the bracket. The Red Knights will open the playoffs at 7 p.m. Thursday night versus No. 6 seed Robbinsdale Armstrong at the St. Louis Park Rec Center.

St. Louis Park Boys Hockey: Robbinsdale Cooper 4, Orioles 3

The St. Louis Park boys hockey team will enter the postseason with a 2-22 overall record after losing, 4-3, to Robbinsdale Cooper at the New Hope Ice Arena.

Brookes Patterson, Jesse Knudson and Tyler Brodersen all scored once for the Orioles, with Ryan Froom making 24 saves, but a two-goal first period gave the Hawks the margin they needed for victory.

Next up for St. Louis Park is the Section 2A playoffs, with the 11th-seeded Orioles to take on No. 6 Holy Family from Waconia on either Tuesday or Wednesday night with a time and location not yet determined.

Benilde-St. Margaret's Wrestling: Red Knights Bow Out In Opening Round

The Benilde-St. Margaret's wrestling team, seeded ninth in the Section 5AA Tournament, lost its opening round match-up to eighth-seeded Zimmerman by a 50-27 score on Saturday at Monticello High School. Individual results were not available.

The Red Knights matmen now prepare for the sectional individual tournament, scheduled for Feb. 25-26 at Zimmerman High School.
