Red Knights Win, Orioles Lose On The Hardcourt

The Benilde-St. Margaret's boys and girls hoopsters swept Columbia Heights, while the St. Louis Park boys fell at Irondale.

The boys and girls basketball teams both held on to their positions atop the North Suburban Conference with wins on Tuesday, while the boys hoopsters fell into a three-way tie for second place with a second-straight conference loss.

Benilde-St. Margaret's Boys Basketball: Red Knights 73, Columbia Heights 57

The Benilde-St. Margaret's boys basketball team improved  to 18-3 overall and a North Suburban-best 11-0 with a 73-57 win at Columbia Heights.

After trailing 30-25 at halftime, the Red Knights blew open the game by out-scoring the hosts 48-27 over the final 18 minutes en route to the victory.

Sanjay Lumpkin led Benilde with 20 points, with Isaiah Zierden logging 19 points and Evan Battle 16 points.

BSM hosts Irondale at 7:15 p.m. Friday.

Benilde-St. Margaret's Girls Basketball: Red Knights 66, Columbia Heights 20

After out-scoring visiting Columbia Heights 44-7 in the first half, Benilde-St. Margaret's cruised to a 66-20 defeat of the Hylanders to improve to 18-5 overall and 13-0 in the North Suburban.

Only two Columbia Heights players scored in the contest, while Khadijah Shumpert and Olivia Antilla tied for the Red Knights scoring lead with 11 points apiece; Josie Dillon chipped in 10 points in the victory.

Benilde travels to Irondale for a 7:15 p.m. match-up on Friday.

St. Louis Park Boys Basketball: Irondale 66, Orioles 60

A 66-60 loss at Irondale dropped the St. Louis Park boys basketball team to 13-9 overall and 9-3 in North Suburban play.

The defeat pulled the Orioles into lockstep with Irondale and Robbinsdale Cooper in the conference race as all three teams finished the night 2.5 games behind North Suburban front-runner BSM.

Marquealis Edwards led Park with 15 points, while Garrison Gillard and TJ Gist recorded 13 and 11 points, respectively, in the loss.

The Orioles host Cooper at 7:15 p.m. Friday.

Results were not currently available for the St. Louis Park girls basketball team's Tuesday night home game against Irondale.
