Red Knights Boys Lacrosse Advances To Section Finals

Briefly trailing 3-2 to visiting Holy Angels, Benilde-St. Margaret's stormed back to take a 17-5 win in Tuesday's semifinal.

After being snapped out of its early slumber by a sudden 3-2 second-quarter deficit, the boys lacrosse team roared back to claim its place in the Section 5 championship game with a 17-5 defeat of visiting Holy Angels in the semifinals on Tuesday night.

The Stars came out fighting against a Red Knights squad that looked a step behind for much of the first quarter. After stunningly falling behind the section's No. 5 seed, an alarm clock went off for the No. 1 seeded and ranked defending state champion Red Knights.

It took only 72 seconds for BSM to knot the score on one of 10 goals from Will Hoesley. Christian Horn then gave the Red Knights the lead for good at 4-3 with 7:34 remaining until halftime.

By the time the break had been reached, the hosts had the game well in hand with a 7-3 advantage.

While Holy Angels scored the first tally of the second half, the Red Knights replied with seven unanswered goals to take a 14-4 lead into the final 12 minutes of play.

BSM out-scored the Stars 3-1 in the fourth quarter to put the finishing touches on its 12-goal win.

Horn and Christian Rekow each scored twice in the game, with Nick Lauth and Peter Schubloom both logging three assists apiece.

The victory set up a sectional final rematch between the Red Knights and Blake, this time with the seeds reversed.

BSM hopes the results will not be reversed from last year, though, as the Red Knights—then the No. 2 seed—overwhelmed the top-seeded Bears by a 13-3 score en route to winning the team's second-ever state title.

This season's Section 5 championship game will be played at 5 p.m. Thursday night at Roseville High School.
