Orioles Match Last Year's Win Total

The St. Louis Park boys hockey team routed Chaska on Thursday, 8-0.

Shjon Podein has proved somewhat prophetic.

The former NHL player and new boys hockey coach told ESPN's John Buccigross last month to "keep your eyes out for the 2-23 St. Louis Park Orioles." That was Park's record last year.

Podein and the 2011-12 Orioles now have two wins in two tries, as St. Louis Park trounced Chaska on the road Thursday night, 8-0. Senior Tyler Brodersen led the way with a hat trick. Five other Orioles—Curtis Greenbush, Jake Lukasavage, Marshall Tema, Miles Mularky and Alec Baer—added a goal apiece.

Podein himself wasn't at the game, as he is in Russia for a hockey coaches summit. Assistant coach Corey Peterson ran the show in Podein's absence.

"This team has many younger and older players that have played in Bantam 'A'
state tournaments in the last three years and should be able to play with any high school in the state," Peterson said after the game. "They are showing us this so far."

St. Louis Park has now outscored its two opponents 13-1 in starting the season 2-0. The Orioles have two more road games on Tuesday and Thursday next week before the home opener on Saturday, Dec. 17, against St. Francis.
