Orioles Gymnasts Wrap Up Season At Sectionals

However, two St. Louis Park teammates are still in running for individual state qualification.

The gymnastics squad completed its season on Saturday at the Section 6AA championship meet at Richfield High School, finishing eighth with a total score of 116.1 and missing out on the state tournament as a team.

Not all Orioles are done with their 2010-11 campaign, however, as Rachel Waldorf and Emily Patterson finished among the top 16 competitors in their respective events and moved on to compete in the individual finals on Wednesday night at Hopkins High School.

Waldorf tied for eighth in the vault with a score of 8.45, while Patterson tied for eighth in the balance beam with an 8.55.

Both gymnasts' scores carry over into the final round, and if either can move into the top four on Wednesday, they would qualify for the state Class AA meet — scheduled for Feb. 25 and 26 at the University of Minnesota Sports Pavilion.
