Orioles Baseball Eliminated In Playoff Opener

St. Louis Park was stunned by a late Wayzata rally.

The baseball team saw its season come to a heart-wrenching end on Thursday at , as Wayzata rallied late to up-end the host Orioles, 3-2, in eight innings in the Section 6AAA Tournament opener.

St. Louis Park took a 2-0 lead in the bottom of the fifth inning on a sun-soaked afternoon in front of a full house, and carried the advantage into the top of the seventh with starting pitcher Zach Lewis still holding the shutout.

However, the Trojans rallied to chase Lewis from the game and tie the score at 2-2. The game went to extra innings after the Orioles went down in order in the home half of the seventh.

A sacrifice fly in the top of the eighth gave Wayzata its first lead of the contest, and the Trojans would make it stick after St. Louis Park could not muster up the tying tally in its final turn at bat.

The loss concluded Aaron McEachran's first season as Orioles head coach with St. Louis Park turning in a 14-6 record.
