NHL Pros Have Been Skating in SLP—But Not Wednesday

With players headed to New York for labor meetings, the Octagon pro hockey camp took a day off.

St. Louis Park has been a hockey hotbed the past few months, but the won't see any NHL stars on Wednesday.

Minnesota Wild players such as Zach Parise, Matt Cullen, Cal Clutterbuck and Josh Harding, plus other NHLers including Dustin Byfuglien and Paul Martin, have been skating at the Rec as part of the Octagon pro hockey camp, the Star Tribune reports. St. Louis Park varsity coach Shjon Podein works for Octagon part-time as a player agent and as a family advisor for top amateurs.

However, the camp has been called off today because of labor meetings in New York City that are expected to draw more than 280 players. The NHL and the NHL Players' Association are currently at an impasse over a new collective bargaining agreement, and a lockout could being Saturday.

If a lockout drags on, Octagon players could continue to skate in St. Louis Park through the fall, the Pioneer Press reports.

If you happen to snap any photos of NHL stars at the Rec, feel free to share them in our Neighborhood Gallery.
