'Chicken Nuggets Are Their Own Food Group'

New St. Louis Park boys hockey coach and former NHL player Shjon Podein shared a few lighthearted thoughts on ESPN.com recently.

Spend a few minutes chatting with new boys hockey coach Shjon Podein and you'll realize he has a zest for life.

That was evident in reading a recent blog post from ESPN's John Buccigross, who has long had a good relationship with the 10-year NHL veteran and 2001 Stanley Cup champion (or "Podes," as Buccigross affectionately calls him).

Buccigross wrote that he texted Podein and asked for an update on his life. Podein obliged with plenty of personality, starting his response by saying:

Oh, Bucci, how do I even begin to start on life today. I can describe it in one word: Awesomeness! Crazy kid busy. OK just the facts, ma'am...

Podein then proceeded to rattle off a few of his personal highlights. He said to "keep your eyes out for the 2-26 St. Louis Park Orioles." (That was their record last year)

He also made a few observations on the world of parenting (he has two young children), noting that it's OK for a 43-year-old male to watch SpongeBob SquarePants—even when the kids aren't home. Podein added that, "Chicken nuggets are their own food group and should be eaten 6-7 times a week."

Here is the full ESPN blog post. Scroll down a bit for the Podein segment. It is definitely entertaining—and recommended—reading.
