Benilde-St. Margaret's played small ball when it mattered most, and it led to a big win against crosstown rival St. Louis Park on Monday evening.
In the bottom of the seventh inning with the score tied at three, the Red Knights walked and bunted themselves into position to nab a home win against the undefeated Orioles.
With the bases loaded and one out, second baseman Robby Sutherland successfully reached for a pitch that was high and out of the strike zone to drop down the squeeze bunt, scoring outfielder Patrick Daly with the winning run.
The win launched BSM into a first place tie with St. Louis Park in the North Suburban Conference. Up next for the Red Knights is a Tuesday afternoon home game against Spring Lake Park.
St. Louis Park also plays at home on Tuesday, as the Orioles will be facing conference foe Columbia Heights.
