BSM Falls in Tourney Final

The Red Knights were beat by Maple Grove for the second time this year in boys hockey.

Maple Grove didn't play the role of accommodating guests Friday night at the .

The Crimson (No. 3 in Class AA) beat host Benilde-St. Margaret's (No. 8) in the championship game of the Holiday Hockey Classic, 5-3. Maple Grove previously defeated BSM on Dec. 20, 5-4.

A three-goal first period by Maple Grove did the Red Knights in. BSM scored one in the first, then two more in the third, but weren't able to overcome the early deficit.

Junior goalie Justin Quale stopped 37 of 42 shots to keep BSM within striking distance. Christian Horn, T.J. Moore and Dan Labosky did the scoring for the Red Knights.

Both BSM and Maple Grove had to knock off some of the best teams in the state just to reach Friday's championship game. The Red Knights defeated Centennial (No. 19 in Class AA) and Moorhead (No. 11), while the Crimson beat Elk River (No. 12) and Wayzata (No. 14).

The Red Knights will travel to Wayzata for their next game on Thursday.
