BSM Girls Soccer Headed to State With Undefeated Record

The Red Knights topped Orono on Tuesday for the Section 6A championship.

The Benilde-St. Margaret's girls soccer team is headed back to the state tournament—and the Red Knights hope to get one more win than last year.

The defending Class A runners-up defeated Orono on Tuesday 3-1 for the Section 6A championship. BSM improved to 18-0-1 on the season with the win.

Junior Kelly Pannek scored twice in the victory, and senior captain Dana Buckhorn added two assists. Senior goalie Anne Michels stopped seven of eight shots on net.

BSM also ended the 2011 regular season undefeated, but fell to Blake 1-0 in the state championship game.

Blake has once again qualified for state. Seedings and brackets have not yet been released, so it's unclear if—or when—a rematch would happen. The opening round of the state tournament will be Oct. 24-26. The championship game is scheduled for Nov. 1.
