A Wild, Wifflin' Good Time

Yours truly was lucky enough to once again compete in the Wifflin' for Wishes tournament over the weekend.

It's really hard to hit a wiffleball.

That's what this local editor learned—or, rather, re-learned—on Saturday. I was in the 2011 Wifflin' for Wishes charity wiffleball tournament, which raised money for the Make-a-Wish Foundation of Minnesota.

It was the second time I've been in the tournament, joined by my best friend and a few other buddies. And as was the case last time I played, hitting that darn plastic ball was a nightmare. The pitcher stood only 42 feet away, the batter only got two strikes—including foul balls—and the wiffleball zigged and zagged like an angry bumblebee. Needless to say, our four games (of which we won two, for the record) were all pitchers' duels.

But even if we weren't cracking out many hits, it was still a great time. In between games, we fired up the grill and popped open the cooler. There was also live music and plenty of fun wiffleball enthusiasts to meet. For more, see this on Hopkins Patch (the tournament was held at in Hopkins).

More important than all of that, however, was the good being done for a very worthy organization. Since Wifflin' for Wishes inception in 2005, $25,000 has been raised for Make-a-Wish.

Now that's a home run.
