St. Louis Park Schools in Good Financial Shape, Audit Says

The district has an unassigned fund balance of $3.1 million.

The St. Louis Park School District is in good financial shape, according to an audit presented to the school board on Monday night.

That audit shows that the district has an unassigned fund balance of $3.1 million, giving the schools some wiggle room. In the 2011 fiscal year, the district brought in $68 million, while it spent $64.2 million.

While the audit was good news for local schools, all Minnesota schools are looking at some potential fiscal issues due to last summer's state shutdown resolution. As part of that deal, , which saved the state $700 million. A number of educational leaders criticized the deal, saying it essentially left schools holding "I-owe-yous."
