SLP School Board Weighing Academic Calendars

The St. Louis Park School Board will be taking action on academic calendars for the 2013-14 and 2014-15 school years during its regularly scheduled Feb. 11 meeting.

District administrators offered two draft calendars during the Board's Jan. 28 meeting, with both options including a post-Labor Day start. That said, the calendars vary significantly in terms of the length of Winter Break and the end of the school year.

The options are as follows:

2013-14 Option One

• School Starts Grades 1-12 – Sept. 3, 2013 
• School Starts Kindergarten – Sept. 5, 2013 
• Education Minnesota Break (MEA) – Oct. 17-18, 2013 
• Winter Break – Dec. 23, 2013-Jan. 3, 2014 
• Spring Break – Mar. 31-Apr. 4, 2014 
• Last Day of School – June 10, 2014  

2013-14 Option Two

• School Starts Grades 1-12 – Sept. 3, 2013 
• School Starts Kindergarten – Sept. 5, 2013 
• Education Minnesota Break (MEA) – Oct. 17-18, 2013 
• Winter Break – Dec. 23, 2013-Jan. 1, 2014 
• Spring Break – Mar. 24-28, 2014 
• Last Day of School – June 6, 2014 

2013-14 Late Start/Early Release Dates 

• Proposed dates are the same for both calendar versions. 
• Early Release = Sept. 27, Dec. 6, Feb. 14 and Apr. 25 
• Late Start = Oct. 21, Jan. 27, Mar. 17 and May 19 

2014-15 Option One

• School Starts Grades 1-12 – Sept. 2, 2014 
• School Starts Kindergarten – Sept. 4, 2014 
• Education Minnesota Break (MEA) – Oct. 16-17, 2014 
• Winter Break – Dec. 22, 2014-Jan. 2, 2015

2014-15 Late Start/Early Release Dates

• Early Release = Sept. 26, Dec. 5, Feb. 13 and Apr. 24 
• Late Start = Oct. 20, Jan. 26, Mar. 23 and May 18
