SLP Test Scores Slightly Above State Figures

St. Louis Park students in grades 3-8 and 10-11 took the MCA-II test in April.

St. Louis Park students in grades 3-8 and 10-11 grade out a little bit better than students across the state in the areas of reading and math.

This according to MCA-II data released today. The MCA-II is a statewide standardized test administered by the Minnesota Department of Education. Students in grades 3-8 took both the reading and math tests, while 10th graders took just reading and 11th graders took just math.

The test was taken in April.

In reading, roughly 79 percent of St. Louis Park students either met or exceeded standards, as compared with 74 percent of students across Minnesota. In math, 59 percent of local students met or exceeded standards; 56 percent of students hit the mark statewide.

The St. Louis Park reading scores were up about 4 percent from 2010. The math scores in grades 3-8 can't be compared to last year, as students took a slightly different test in 2011. Students in 11th grade—who took the same math test both years—were down about 4 percent in 2011.

Statewide, reading scores were up less than 2 percent from last year. Math scores in 11th grade were up about 5 percent.
