Six Benilde Wrestlers Head to State Tournament

The action gets under way at 9 a.m. Friday. Jarred Oftedahl, Jake Allar, Jake Deutschlander, Christian DuLaney, Logan Kass and Jameer Anderson will represent the Red Knights.

Benilde-St. Margaret's will have six wrestlers in action when individual state tournament action gets under way Thursday morning at the Xcel Energy Center.

Senior Jarred Oftedahl (41-1, 113 pounds) is the Red Knights' best shot at bringing home hardware after placing fifth in the same weight class a year ago.

Three other Red Knights wrestlers will be competing in weight classes containing few returning state place-winners. There's just one each in Jake Allar's 106-pound bracket and Jake Deutschlander's 145-pound class, and there are only two at 182 pounds, where BSM will be represented by junior Christian DuLaney.

Sophomore Logan Kass has a tougher road at 132 pounds, where two returning state champions move up in weight in search of another title this season. Both of those wrestlers are on the other side of the bracket, but Kass would have to go through the only unbeaten wrestler in the bracket — Pine City/Hinckley-Finlayson's Kyle Opsahl — to reach the semifinals.

BSM's sixth qualifier, Jameer Anderson, opens against Jack Ryan of Simley, this year's state runner-up in team competition.
