The two-term board member cited family and personal reasons for her decision.

Pam Rykken, the St. Louis Park School Board vice chair, has announced her resignation from the school board, effective immediately due to personal and family commitments.

“Serving as a member of the St. Louis Park School Board has been an honor and privilege,” said Rykken in a press release. “It is with mixed emotions that I announce my resignation, for personal and family commitment reasons. I will remain forever grateful for the opportunity to serve as a school board member. It has been one of the most rewarding and challenging experiences of my life.”

Rykken first joined the school board in January of 2008, and was that began in January of 2012. The board will meet in September to discuss how to fill the remainder of Rykken’s term, which expires in December of 2015. Until the seat is filled, all board business will be managed as usual by the six-member school board.

“Pam was a tireless advocate for St. Louis Park children through Children First and other avenues,” said board chair Jim Yarosh in the release. “We were fortunate to have her serve our community for more than four years.
